2010 Olympics Mascot Mayhem October 21, 2009

While randomly searching random things, I came across some pictures that are worth more than a billion words. Many many thoughts about the 2010 Olympics that were brilliantly portrayed in a small set of pictures, some not even needing captions.

one word: brilliant!

Photographer? Jay Black . His snippet?  “I am an Anglo-Canadian poet and photographer. Raised in southwestern Ontario and southern Alberta, I now live in Vancouver on British Columbia’s southwest coast. The city in which I live rests on unceded Coast Salish territory.”

This is one of my faves. It was Photo of the Day for 28 September 2009 on the CBC Radio 3 website!

“Get up, Sir”

Youre not allowed to sleep here. Youre in violation of City of Vancouver By-laws. Youre making the city uncivil.

“You’re not allowed to sleep here. You’re in violation of City of Vancouver By-laws. You’re making the city uncivil.”

Quatchi’s eyes blink open to the silhouettes of two Vancouver Police officers towering over him. “Good morning,” he chitters in sasquatch speak, but the officers don’t understand.

“He’s high and it isn’t 0700 yet,” one says.

The other moves closer, “Okay, you’re coming with us. We’re taking you to a shelter.”

The first officer leans in to grab Quatchi by the arm. “Has anyone ever told you you smell really bad?”

“Yeah,” coughs the other, “You stink, buddy. But it isn’t a normal homeless smell. It’s closer to skunk … but not quite.”

“Maybe he’s a baby bigfoot. I read somewhere they reek”

“Shut up. Bigfoots aren’t real.”

Mascot Miga Enters a Secure Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Venue Zone

… and Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit members are on the scene, ready for anything. Trouble is, they think she’s a person dressed in a mascot costume and they’re aware – as V2010ISU Chief Operating Officer Bud Mercer recently reminded us – that wearing a mask in the commission of a crime will add ten years to your sentence. But this is the real Miga and she doesn’t wear a mask. She doesn’t even carry ID, for goodness’ sake!

good morning sunshines!

Check out the free online streaming of Where the Wild Things Are soundtrack on Imeem. Woots!

The whole collection is dreamy-ish childlike and not necessarily just for kids.. even though sometimes it sounds like a small children’s choir..

Classic Tomato Spaghetti July 6, 2009

Dear Jamie,

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to publish this book. After just one cooking session (classic tomato spaghetti) with it I have fallen in love.

I decided to go with an fairly easy one to start so I could coax myself into this thing called cooking. You were right; it was simple, healthy and affordable.

Browning the 2 cloves of sliced garlic with 1 sliced red chile, chopped up basil stalks and olive oil was easy! Glad it was on medium heat so the 2 lugs of olive oil didn’t splatter on me while I was giving them a good stir. Adding the basil leaves and 14 oz. can of diced tomatos was a breeze! I then turned up the heat, added some salt and pepper. I took your suggestion of adding a few handfuls of cooked shrimp with juice from ½ a lemon. When I added the cooked spaghetti to the mix, I also threw in a handful of baby spinach.

Following your easy instructions, like stir the spaghetti into the sauce was very easy to follow. Throwing some torn up basil leaves and some parmesen cheese wasn’t burning too many brain cells either.

Thank you Jamie Oliver, for giving me the means to cook easy and very tasty food by myself. Can’t wait to cook with you again.

My adventures with Jamie’s Food Revoultion – passing it on July 3, 2009

Jamie's Food Revolution

I never thought that I would be *this* inspired by Jamie Oliver. I loved his “Cook with Jamie” but his new book  titled Jamie’s Food Revolution (his show is called Ministry of Food) has swept me off my feet to land right in front of the stove.

Remember that movie that Haley Joel Osmont (the Sixth Sense kid) was in that movie “Pay it Forward”? The idea is to make the world a better place but forward-repaying good deeds.. so not with payback to the person that did the good deed to you but a new good deed to three new people and so on.. you get the idea!

Jamie Oliver has a similar idea, but with food! (and I guess WWII did too) Concept is that someone will learn to cook or improve their cooking by learning from one another. It’s quite simple, you take the pledge of learning atleast one recipe from each chapter of his book and after you have mastered the recipe, you pass it on to two people and those two people pass it on to two new people.. and thats already FOUR people! eventually it’s a food revolution!

In addition to photo-documenting my pledge, i’d also like to photo-document my food adventures about the other yummy things that end up in my tummy and where it all came from!
